Gentarasa - Langit Nan Terjunjung

In conjunction with the Singapore Arts Festival 2005, the People’s Association and Malay Activity Co-ordinating Council (MESRA), is organising a semi-musical theatre extravaganza entitled “Gentarasa – Langit Nan Terjunjung (The Soil We Toil)” on Saturday, 18 June 2005, at the Kallang Theatre.

GENTARASA - Langit Nan Terjunjung is a dynamic and symbolic portrayal of youth, responsibility and their aspiration after 40 years of the nation's independence.

This semi-musical theatre production fuses various genres of performing arts, visual arts and poetry recitation and feature a picturesque protrayal of its theme where youth is the budding aspiration and future representation of the new and forceful energy to withhold the pride and sovereignty of our nation.

Helmed by well-known choreographer, Nadiputra, the musical showcases dance, songs, poetry-in-motion, dikir barat and kompang performances by about 50 local talents from eight Community Clubs and members of the People’s Association Cultural Talents. The concert is artistically directed by Osman Abdul Hamid and original music by Dzul Rabull Jalil and Sri Mahligai.

The National Arts Council has also raised the profile of Gentarasa 2005 as part of the new festival called “Asian Showcase”. This is to give special publicity focus to the Festival’s Asian programmes.
